ABOUT NOMO
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Mission Statement
To empower transwomen of Color in their healing as they embrace their purpose in the world.
Founded in 2017 by Zaria Newbill, a native of Hawkinsville, the NOMO Organization — “Navigating Omitted Minds Overtime” — was created to provide advocacy, education, and life-saving support for LGBTQ+ individuals throughout Middle Georgia. What began as a vision rooted in community healing and empowerment has grown into one of the region’s most visible and impactful grassroots organizations serving transgender and queer communities.
NOMO Organization is recognized as the only Black transgender-led nonprofit organization in Middle Georgia, offering culturally competent services in an area where LGBTQ+ affirming resources have historically been limited. Under Zaria Newbill’s leadership, NOMO has focused on creating safe spaces for transgender people, particularly Black trans women, while also supporting LGBTQ+ youth, parents, couples, and allies through peer support groups, HIV education, mental health advocacy, community outreach, and empowerment programs.
Over the years, the organization has expanded its reach across multiple counties in Middle Georgia, addressing issues such as healthcare access, housing insecurity, stigma, discrimination, and the lack of transgender visibility in rural Southern communities. NOMO has also organized initiatives such as Pride-N-Middle Georgia, educational workshops, therapy partnerships, scholarship opportunities, and support services for transgender individuals navigating legal and medical systems.
More than an organization, NOMO has become a symbol of resilience, representation, and hope for LGBTQ+ people across Georgia. Through compassion, advocacy, and grassroots leadership, Zaria Newbill and NOMO Organization continue to create pathways for healing, visibility, and empowerment for communities too often overlooked and underserved.
