ABOUT NOMO

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

Mission Statement

To empower transwomen of Color in their healing as they embrace their purpose in the world.

Our Executive Director, Zaria Newbill’s vision, is to advocate for safe spaces as although she is a trans woman, she is black first. The lack of safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ communities perpetuals at-risk behaviors and the continuation of stigma for closeted men, has helped to contribute to increased HIV rates, with black women currently with the highest number of new HIV cases in the U.S. Beyond belief systems and political views, this is an epidemic and it is not being discussed enough. In Middle Georgia, N.O.M.O. Organization is the only black trans-led nonprofit organization that advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. N.O.M.O.’s key focus areas are education, community development, health care access, and human rights as the organization seeks to provide resources for those historically unrepresented and disenfranchised. Due to the increased attacks on the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, specifically for those most affected by the anti legislation laws being passed, N.O.M.O. has developed chapters in Atlanta and its neighboring cities to further educate legislators and community leaders on the needs of its community members.
